Games 'Motor Storm'

Feb 2007
'MotorStorm' is a brutal, no-holds-barred offroad racing game created exclusively for the PLAYSTATION 3. Set in the fictitious desert environment of Monument Valley, 'MotorStorm' takes full advantage of the processing power of the PLAYSTATION 3 to deliver an extreme racing event where the goal is to not only win, but to survive.

In the game, players will descend upon the MotorStorm Festival, a celebration of the alternative and extreme offroad racing culture. Throwing caution to the wind, players will take on a variety of racing fanatics and battle through chaotic, action-packed tracks to try and become the Festival champ. MotorStorm (PS3)

The game features super-smart artificial intelligence (AI), real-time track deformation, fully destructible vehicles and environments, and stunningly detailed scenery. Tapping into the power of the PlayStation 3, 'MotorStorm' showcases cinematic effects such as motion blur, depth-of-field, and Hollywood-style “crash cams” that replay spectacular crash sequences during a race.

KEY FEATURES

Attacking and Offensive Driving – Players must not only try to win the race but survive against the other racers. Combat-like racing takes centre stage as the vehicles are the weapons.
Stunning Environments – 'MotorStorm' features amazing scenic environments that capture some of America's most recognizable desert landmarks with wide-open plains, harrowing cliff edges, and tight canyon sections.
Cutting-Edge Artificial Intelligence – The A.I. is able to analyse the race and surroundings and react in the most realistic manner possible. Not only will the competition try to win the race at all costs, but the A.I. will react to situations realistically, such as locating the best routes and changing the level of driving aggression based on player actions.
Real-time Track Deformation – Players will never experience the same track twice as each vehicle will carve up the track in varying depths, making navigation of each lap different than the last.
Real-time Audio Manipulation – An entirely new in-game music experience where echo and reverb are filtered in, delivering a unique “live” music experience during each race.
PLAYSTATION 3 – Greater processing power on PlayStation 3 and Blu-ray technology enables more immersive visuals and sound effects in 'MotorStorm', heightening the chaos within each brutal race environment

I recently purchased a PS3 after selling all my Xbox 360 stuff so I could upgrade to this better console, plus it has built in blu-ray. The puzzling moment came when it came to choosing a game. I was veering for Virtua Tennis 3 but have Wii Sports on the Wii so thought this would be a waste. I eventually chose Motorstorm as reviews online said it was quite addictive.

How right they were. The 1 player mode is good fun and hard enough to make you keep playing until you conquer it and come first. The graphics are great and the gameplay is good also as it is not your bog standard racing game.

Where this game goes one step better is online. Playing up to 12 people (including myself) is great fun, but it gets even better when you have played a couple of games as personal rivalries develop and you instantly look to take your competitor out by pushing them off a cliff or ramp.

This game really is great fun and highly addictive, so I strongly recommend it. I would give this game 8/10 overall. I usually reserve the 9's and 10's for games that are just mind blowing, like the Resident Evils or the GTA's.

Enjoy!! from Reviewer: David Waller "Trigger" England

This presentation of this game is fantastic!
The graphics are incredible and the sound track is brilliant.
The game itself is nothing original though. You race around tracks, finish high enough to unlock new vehicles and races.
Even though it is not original it is up there with the best when it comes to entertainment.
The Online option is brilliant and easy to get into.

When Motorstorm 2 appears hopefully it will include a few extras though, such as a 2 player offline game, vehicle stats and track radar to see location of rivals. This opinion from Reviewer: Mark F "Mr F" (Surrey, UK)

the online play is very good but there is no multiplayer setting so you cant invite a friend over to give them a race, by Reviewer: Mr bacon (england)
